Setting New Standards
An Exploration of Standards Past, Present, and Future

Have you ever wondered what makes a standard a standard? Why are songs from the Tin Pan Alley era so much a part of the public consciousness? When exactly did songwriting change, and why? Will songs written in the last 50 years every become standards like those from Tin Pan Alley? If so, what songs will those be, and who is writing them? These are the questions addressed and answered in "Setting New Standards." Including in this remarkable evening of song are standards past (Berlin, Porter, Gershwin) and present (Beatles, Carole King), and perhaps even future (Goldrich & Heisler, John Bucchino). A fascinating evening of standards through time. Always a crowd pleaser, an education, and a joy.

Hollywood & Broadway : A fine romance
The Intersection of Hollywood & Broadway

[Coming November 2010] Hollywood and Broadway have a fascinating relationship, and a rich history. After ignoring each other for years, both Hollywood and Broadway had near simultaneous revolutions in 1927 -- Hollywood's release of "The Jazz Singer" and Broadway's launch of "Show Boat" -- From this point forward, their relationship could no longer be denied. They have, at times, wanted no part of one another, depended upon one another, and enriched and detracted from each other's lives in profound ways. The result so far... a wealth of glorious music, amazing stories, and delicious anecdotes. This wildly entertaining program presents the best of the best. "Mama, you ain't heard nothin' yet!"

Femme Forte
A Century of Women Songwriters

Everyone knows the names Jerome Kern and Harold Arlen, but almost no one knows the names Dorothy Fields. In a career that spanned over half a century, Dorothy was responsible for the lyrics to over 400 songs, many of which are now standards in our Great American Sonbook. Her story is not unique, but her songwriting couldn't be more special. "Femme Forte" is an evening of fascinating stories and marvelous songs celebrating some of the greatest women songwriters of the last century -- known and unknown, young and old -- and their contributions to our Great American Songbook. Audiences enjoy great old songs they know and love but didn't know were written by women, and discover great new songs they're going to love written by women they should know. Especially great for Women's History Month (March), but great any time of year.
